Pretty Brainy Parenting
Empowering Adolescent Girls
No one is 100% ready to raise a daughter! So here we present Pretty Brainy insight to doing the job:
1. Love your daughter for exactly who she is.
2. Try to remember what it was to be at a young age. If you are a mother, remember what it was to be a girl growing up.
3. Be the parent. Be the adult.
4. You are in charge. Make good things happen.
Battling over What to Wear? Use Physics to Influence Your Daughter’s Preteen Clothes
You and your daughter will play out two sides of any given situation. It is a matter of physics, and you cannot change the laws of physics. So Pretty Brainy is here to remind you that anything you want your daughter to do may require you to take a stand that is opposite to what you really want.
Try this when shopping for ′tween fashion.
Pick out something you do not want your daughter to wear and insist she try it on. (It may be in style this year, out the next. Worse, it could be too mature for a preteen girl.) The item should not be your idea of “adorable, appealing preteen clothes” or “modest clothes for daughters,” and that’s the point. The closer your daughter is to becoming a teen, the further away from your views she will become. So if you want her to wear age-appropriate clothes for girls, stand in the girls or juniors department and insist (pretend you really mean it) she try on the very thing you do not want her to wear.
And because you’re a Pretty Brainy parent, you know what her reaction will be!
